How to use purple shampoo

Violet/purple/silver shampoos allow you to maintain a fresh blonde look and prevent your hair from looking brassy and yellow in between salon visits. However, there are some things to keep in mind when using these products to ensure you don't compromise your hair.

Add it to your routine gradually
Toning shampoos are usually quite strong, so when you're adding it to your routine I recommend mixing it in with your regular shampoo so that it won't overpower your hair. Or you can shampoo first with your regular shampoo and follow up with the toning shampoo as the second cleanser.

Follow treatment with a hydrating mask
These shampoos often contain strong pigment and can leave your hair feeling dry and dehydrated if you over use it. To prevent this from happening I like to follow up with a rushing or hydrating conditioner or mask.

The longer you leave it in, the stronger the effects
Most people only need to use a toning shampoo about once a week when your hair starts turning brassy and yellow. The longer you leave it on the more pigment it will deposit on your hair - the lighter your natural hair colour the more tone you will generally see afterwards. Don't worry it won't make your hair turn purple!

Going blonde can take time
You may need a few different sessions at the salon to get the shade you are after, especially if you are changing your hair colour from dark to light, or have elements of copper/red. Regularly using a purple shampoo will help stretch the time between colour appointments and reduce any damage from over bleaching.

Toning shampoo can't fix everything!
While it can help reduce the number of colour appointments you need, purple shampoo is only a temporary fix and it will eventually reach its limit before a colour refresh is needed.

Please feel free to book in for a consultation to discuss your hair needs.
